About Us
Today the Davenport Fire Department consists of eight engine and three ladder companies, plus several specialized and reserve equipment. Our staff consists of a complement 139 uniformed personnel, a physician Medical Director, an Emergency Medical Services Coordinator and two civilian secretaries.
Today's Fire Department is a broad-spectrum service, which deals in emergency service response to a multitude of natural and man-made incidents. These include, but are not limited too, fires, emergency medical services, hazardous materials incidents, floods, rescues, and service calls.
The Fire Department has developed and is operating as part of a group consisting of police, ambulance, and medical professions, the "first-responder" concept. This service increases the emergency medical services to the citizens of Davenport and has proven to be a very successful program.
Today's fire service is a complex and dynamic organization, which is probably most evident in the field of fire prevention. The Davenport Fire Department is no exception and, with its inspection programs and plan review procedures, and updating and amending codes when life safety issues or building practices change. Continued vigilance of our changing society is paramount in our efforts to ensure safety to our citizens. |
