About Us

The City Plan and Zoning Commission is a fifteen-member citizen board appointed by the Mayorwith confirmation by the City Council. Appointments are for five years and are staggered. Members serve without compensation. The Commission holds regular monthly meetings, which are preceded by a public hearing and committee meetings.  The Development Calendar gives a listing of Commission/Committee meeting dates and times.  Standing committees of the City Plan and Zoning Commission include the Zoning Committee, Subdivision Committee, the Comprehensive Plan Committee, and the Design Review Committee.Before Photo of Business

The Commission is charged with making recommendations to the City Council on all matters that pertain to the City's Comprehensive Plan. The Commission also reviews and makes recommendations on:

The Commission is required to make an annual report to the Mayor and City Council on its activities.  To this end staff prepares the annual 'Development Report' which includes information on the activities of the Plan and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Historic Preservation Commission and other department duties including, but not limited to, signing and licensing reviews.
