Kids_GardeningNature and Garden provides environmental friendly programming from toddlers to senior citizens.  Our programs create a sense of environmental stewardship in a sustainable way through active participation.  Activities take place at Davenport parks and natural areas.

 

The four components to Nature and Garden through active participation are:

  • Awareness - making a personal connection with the natural environment.
  • Knowledge - presentation and understanding of information about the natural world.
  • Outdoor skills - recreational experiences such as gardening, canoeing and other activities with an outdoor theme.
  • Action skills - using the knowledge to change lifestyles through active behavior.

Naturalization and No Mow Policy

Over the past few years our park users, golf course players, and residents may have noticed changes in the way some of our parks, golf courses, and green spaces are being managed and maintained. We term this naturalization. Naturalization is a process by which a disturbed site is restored to its natural heritage and ecological function by encouraging the establishment of native plant species. Davenport Parks and Recreation will be holding a series of three Comprehensive Plan meetings in the coming weeks. Everyone is encouraged to participate in this process formalizing the Comprehensive Plan that will be in place for the next ten years.
