Urban Garden Program
Mission: Urban Gardening provides wellness opportunities for growing food and beautifying publicly managed lands to foster community stewardship and sustainability.
Purpose: The purpose of the Urban Garden Program is to:
1) Enhance community wellness through the growth of fresh food
2) Foster beautification in public lands
3) Promote therapeutic recreation through the act of gardening
4) Encourage stewardship of public lands via gardening
5) Provide educational opportunities in sustainable growing practices via educational classes/workshops
1) Fresh food grown on public lands
a) Plots are assigned in order of application
b) Limited greenhouse space and compost are available, first come first serve.
2) Pocket gardens in designated areas of Davenport public parks for area beautification
a) Gardens in approved locations with agreed maintenance guidelines
b) Limited supplies and materials available by application only
Gardener agreement forms required.
1) Urban garden food plots - great for all ages, must be 18 to register
2) Pocket gardens - pocket gardens are areas within local neighborhood parks set aside for beautification, great project site for neighborhood associations/groups.
