New Police Station
Department Services
![]() On December 13, 2004 Neumann Monson Architects presented to the Davenport City Council conceptual drawings and proposed floor plans for a new Davenport Police facility to be built to replace the existing police headquarters building.
The Davenport Police Department headquarters building was previously located at 420 N. Harrison St. in a building that was formerly occupied by the Schwind Boeker auto dealership. In 1978, this building was remodeled to become the home of the Davenport Police Department. It was designed to be a 10 year temporary solution to the police department's overcrowding problems in the basement of City Hall. We ended up being in this building for 29 years. This building contained only 27,000 square feet of usable space. The Police Department had long ago outgrown that space. The age, size, and configuration of this building made remodeling and expansion unworkable. There were no windows to allow natural lighting or ventilation for employees. Work group adjacencies and traffic flow patterns made for extremely inefficient use of employee time. Climate control was ineffective and inefficient.
The estimated cost of the new police building project is $20.3 million. The Groundbreaking for the new building occurred in the Fall of 2005. Phase 1 of this project was to construct the new police facility immediately adjacent to the old police headquarters. This phase has been completed and the employees of the Davenport Police Department moved into the new building at 416 N. Harrison St. at the beginning of September, 2007. Phase 2 involved tearing down the old police headquarters and constructing a 2-level parking deck that attaches to the new building. This phase was completed in August, 2008. |
