The City of Davenport’s zoning code is getting an update that reflects the community’s diverse housing demands and a 21st century economy.

Commercial poultry operations are still allowable downtown, according to the code while making no accommodations for computer software makers. To better reflect current and future zoning needs, the City’s zoning ordinance is undergoing a complete updated. The last comprehensive revision was in 1978.

The City has enlisted a team of zoning experts, Camiros Ltd., of Chicago to guide the City through this process and include as much public input as possible.  The first public meeting will be at March 9 at Davenport Public Works, 1200 E. 46th St., from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The process is expected to take about 18 months, so several opportunities will be scheduled for public input. City Council and staff are expected to have a phone conference with the team from Camiros at the management update meeting on Tuesday.
