The complex process of rewriting Davenport’s zoning ordinance kicks off this week with a presentation to the City Council and a public meeting.

City Council will hear about the process at its meeting on Wednesday, March 8. The next night, city staff and representatives from Camiros Ltd., of Chicago, will host a public meeting at Public Works, 1200 East 46th St., from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Representatives from Camiros held stakeholder interviews with aldermen, boards and commissions members, City department heads and planning staff and developers. The March 9 meeting will provide an overview of the scope and the process of rewriting the zoning ordinance. The process is expected to take about 18 months.

The last significant update to the ordinance was 1978. An update will provide predictable and attractive outcomes for new development, increase investment interest in the central city, meet community-wide planning goals and more sustainable planning.

Anyone interested in shaping Davenport’s future, including involved citizens, neighborhood leaders, design professionals and business owners are invited to attend.
