Stacks of leather-bound books wait to go on sale by the Friends of the Davenport Public LibraryA carefully-built tower of leather-bound books in their protective cases greets visitors to The Library/Eastern, but it is just a glimpse of the amazing collection of books that go on sale Friday.

Due to the condition and value of the books they will be priced above the usual 50 cents per book the Friends of the Library usually charge for most in its sale.

The more than 1,000 books were donated from an estate and feature dozens of over-sized and coffee table books that range from animals and birds to art and philosophy. The collection has leather-bound editions of the classics, leather-bound collectors editions of Peterson bird and nature books, various art, bird, literature, plant and flora books.

Whole collections of the 1990 set of Great Books (60 volumes), 1910 set of Harvard Classics (51 volumes), Shakespeare Collection - Penguin Books (38 volumes), Library of America Collection will also be on sale.

The sale at the Eastern Avenue branch, 6000 Eastern Ave., is from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.
