Mayor Frank Klipsch has been busy during his time in Germany representing Davenport and the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative, doing media interviews and meeting representatives from environmental groups.
Klipsch is attending the Conference of the Parties that is part of a United Nations conference on climate change. His travel is funded by the MRCTI.
He spoke with a reporter from Reuters News Agency about MRCTI's commitment to work with the international community to achieve water and food security as a food production leader.
"We want to be part of a world coalition that supports clean water and that being outside of that discussion jeopardizes our economy, and we are committed to making sure our city is more resilient and sustainable," he said.
Klipsch attended the opening session of the COP and met with Nick Henry, the founder and CEO of climate action from London who oversees the U.S. pavilion for a sustainable and worldwide commitment to the environment.
He also dined with mayors from Santa Monica Calif., Pittsburgh Penn., Carmel Ind., and representatives from South Africa's Climate Disclosure Project, France's International Network of Basin Organizations, the World Wildlife Federation from Washington D.C., the United Kingdon's World Water Council and the North American network of Basin organizations.
Mayor Klipsch returns this week in time to preside over Wednesday's Committee of the Whole meeting.
