Main Street Landing

Description/Goal

Finalize design, complete bidding process, and commence construction of the N5 "Flex Lot"; participate in the Figge/DDP art study; begin development of the N4 "Urban Lounge" Lot; and continue to evaluate opportunities for a public-private partnership associated with the sky bridge plaza area.

Current Update

Construction on the N5 lot restarted in Q3. Pavers are currently being placed and expect to be finished by the end of fall. Lighting for the N5 lot is currently out to bid with the electrical work scheduled to be complete in spring 2020.

Previous Status

Construction on the N5 lot was delayed this quarter due to flooding. With floodwaters now receded, construction is expected to resume as soon as Iowa American Water completes work to relocate a water line. Construction is anticipated to be complete by fall as long as weather conditions allow.

During the flood, Canadian Pacific raise their rail line throughout the downtown by 4 to 24 inches. All rail crossings and access to the riverfront have been temporarily restored and City staff are working with Canadian Pacific on how to best mitigate the impact of the raise tracks on the Main Street Landing area permanently.
