Pirate cut-outs that are part of the summer theme of Pirates of Vander VeerSet sail for summer adventure with the Pirates of Vander Veer!

Vander Veer Botanical Park has taken on a pirate theme this summer, with a treasure hunt, miniature pirate ships and tropical plants. The adventure is free and open to all ages through August.

Wannabe pirates can get a treasure map, follow it around the park and decipher a code to collect treasure back at the conservatory. The conservatory is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays. It is closed on Mondays.

Events will also be held throughout the summer in the park:

• Coffee and Cuttings, where participants learn to propagate a plant, at 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday of every month.
• Story time sponsored by Davenport Public Library at 11 a.m. every Tuesday in June and July.
• My Little Wheelbarrow, with hands-on garden and nature activities for children ages 2 to 8 near the playground at 10 a.m. on every other Wednesday in June and July.
• Little Sprouts, with stories and learning activities for children ages 2 to 6 in the conservatory at 10:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of every month.
• Lunch and learn features lessons from Scott County Master Gardeners. Bring your lunch to the Conservatory at 11:30 a.m. for 12:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month, June through August.
• Attend a Pirate Party with pirate themed activities at 6 p.m. before each Movie in the Park, July 13 and Aug. 24.
