Public Safety Radio System

Description/Goal

Participate in a bi-state consortium currently working through the contract negotiations with vendor on the next-generation radio system build-out project. Maintain partnership with SECC and Iowa stakeholder communities on implementation.

Current Update

The intergovernmental agreement has been signed by Rock Island and Scott counties. Scott County has outlined the funding process for this project. The project has moved into the Detailed Design Review phase and individual tower sites have been identified and land negotiations are in progress to secure access. By beginning of 4th quarter 2019, expect to begin the necessary soil investigations, regulatory approvals (FAA, FCC, etc.), purchases, leases, zoning approvals for the sites.  Anticipate work on tower sites to begin over the winter months and into the spring 2020.  The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has approved representatives to sit on the intergovernmental advisory group. This group will be discussing policies for the common good of Rock Island and Scott counties. The current radios are at the end of their current life cycle.  Replacement portable radios plan is being developed.  Some radios may need to be replaced sooner, due to limited replacement parts available.

Sites are being identified for proposed locations of new radio towers and final details for the system's design are being negotiated. The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has offered suggestions for representatives to sit on the intergovernmental advisory group. This group will be discussing policies for the common good of Rock Island and Scott counties. These members have been approved by the SECC board. The current radios are at the end of their current life cycle, if radios are needed prior to the purchase by the County, the City is currently working on a plan to do so.
