City leaps forward since last Leap Day

City leaps forward since last Leap Day
Posted on 02/28/2020
The entrance to Costco on 53rd StreetDavenport has made a big leap forward since the last Leap Day -- Feb. 29, 2016.

Amenities like Costco and Portillio’s joined the 53rd Street corridor while Sterilite and Kraft boosted the City’s industrial base.

Removing the casino boat from the riverfront led to the new Rhythm City hotel near Interstate 80 and a new recreation area, the still-developing Main Street Landing along the riverfront.

The Current and Eastern Iowa Community College’s Urban Campus along with restaurants, apartments and coffee shops, joined the downtown while Veterans Memorial Parkway, the West 76th Street connection and construction of the City’s Transload Facility were key infrastructure projects.

St. Ambrose University and Palmer College of Chiropractic added to their campuses. Retail outlets also made key investments in Davenport.

The Eastern Iowa Industrial Center grew with the addition of companies like 7G Distribution, Craftsman Utility Trailer and MMS Thermal. Long-time local companies like Riverstone and Russell Construction built new headquarters while Genesis Medical Center had a major hospital and clinic expansion.
