Neighborhoods

Safe and  healthy  neighborhoods are the foundation of our community. The City of Davenport strives to work with neighborhood leaders and property owners to make Davenport a welcoming place to live.

This page was created as a one-stop resource to help our community preserve and improve our neighborhoods.

Sidewalk, Boulevard & Driveway Approach Maintenance - Who is Responsible?

Property owners, and/or their occupants, are responsible for maintaining the public sidewalk, the boulevard abutting their property, and applicable driveway approach. These responsibilities include:

  • Replacement or reconstruction of defective sidewalks.
  • Mowing the boulevard areas and maintaining them in a safe condition.
  • Clearing snow and ice from sidewalks.

A 50/50 cost share program may be available for assistance with replacement or reconstruction of defective sidewalks.  See the Sidewalk Installation and Repair Program at the tab below for details.

Visit our Snow and Ice webpage for more information on sidewalk snow removal.

Visit our Property Maintenance webpage for more information on maintenance of property boulevards.  Consider getting involved and removing litter from the curb line or boulevard.

Sidewalk & Boulevard Maintenance is Good for the Community

Sidewalks are good for our community. Studies show sidewalks increase property values. They also:

  • Provide health benefits
  • Economic benefits
  • Help reduce crime
  • Provide an enhanced sense of community, and
  • Improve access to buses while decreasing use of cars for short trips (saving gas and lowering emissions)

Properly maintained sidewalks and boulevards:

  • Improve neighborhood curb appeal
  • Improve pedestrian safety
  • Reduce the potential for liability claims against both property owner and the city
